was reading Sherlock holmes and this popped into my head
#I’m fine with writers doing something different with a character but they keep making them weirdly mean for no reason#please stop mischaracterizing the blorbos#Sherlock is not a heartless machine of a man. he has allot of compassion he just has trouble properly expressing it.#Why do they keep making him emotionless and broody#well the broody is accurate#stop making him mean to Watson that’s his hypeman bestie soulmate he would kill and die for#And he has a sense of humor. he’s described laughing giggling or chuckling in the books allot. Especially at his own jokes#Batman is a genuinely good person who cares about the people around him and also the entirety of Gotham#He cares about his mentally unwell villains and wants them to get the help they need#And he also doesn’t kill. Under any circumstance. That’s a big part of his character idk how anyone could miss that#the mischaracterization of Batman is so bad it’s effecting the comics#It’s spreading like a infection#Superman is sweet and kind and full of love for humanity#he’s ridiculously powerful and uses that power to selflessly help others#most importantly he’s just a farmboy from Kansas#Not that deep into Superman lore sorry#There’s hope for the future of Superman and Batman movies#which is nice#Sherlock holmes#acd sherlock#Superman#batman#Dc

fun fact a lot of the "critters" and other monsters in Reverse 1999 are mythology creatures, but such extremely esoteric ones that I can only list Olitiau (cuz I looked it up - from Central Africa) and Abang Akus (happened to just stumble upon it - Malay and maybe Central India? - various spellings) as examples.

well I'm impressive with the people at Bluepoch who researched all this because the few online sources my searches return are all of... shall we say, not-suitable-for-citation quality haha -- they've worked hard to find unique creatures for their game!

#yeah so i'm reading the 430k sequel to that other fic and having a GREAT time.#one of my favorite books in high school was Kalahari by Jessica Khoury- same deal.#weird virus infecting the local flora and fauna and slowly encroaching upon the humans who are trying to solve the mystery-#-before it causes mass biological destruction? hell yeah.#this is also why I need to read Annihilation. it's not the same but it seems similar enough that i'd really like it.#I couldn't watch the movie but I think the book would be fine.#it's also sooort of why I like house MD? but again I struggle with the visual aspect of it so I've been on a house break lately.#House also tends to trigger my emetophobia really badly 😭#anyways. i'm going to finish this fic and then get back to all the other things I need to get done#and I know I have friends whose fics I need to get around to/continue as well! have not forgotten#but I did need a few days of 'read 2 longfics for several hours so that your brain is not in the real world with your problems' moment.#the problems did not go away but I am coming back to them with a renewed sense of invigoration. refilling my HP bar.

2023 year in review:
#got into a major car wreck had a family member die had my best friend disown me bc she joined a cult grandpa nearly died#got bad case of COVID likely permanently lost 60% of my hearing in one ear stepped on a 2in rusty nail and got an infection#on the other hand:#saw the best performance of Hamlet of my life read so many new books made out with some hot girls trip to France took train thru rocky mtns#saw les mis tour sewed 15 full sized quilts presented at a conference did good job at work stayed alive#quite the year…whew!#…maybe I should type out all the good things more often

#please cant we... cant we just have .... my idea written by someone else and better than i could do it by one million times#i want. to go to bed i guess#sigh.#wont anybody please make vampires actual ceo assholes hello.#that dhampir academy thing came closest first book was pretty homoerotic#read that decades ago (not quite)#my stuff#blagh ignore me i am so so so tired#and i didnt do anything for most of the day i hate this#its actually a series book one is about a zombie apocalypse in europe due to a new bioweapon and a student is on her way home from uni her#train gets bombed she attempts to go home but the zombies get her she is a zombie for a while but wakes up one day#still hungry...but lucid. her senses sharpened and herself more capable of anything. she hears a little girl trapped in a basement and gets#her out. and while travelling back to her hometown keeps her safe. then almost gets killed eating dead people for sustenance gorges on blood#but yhe girl sees her. then she comes across a guy she helps they protect each other and the kid. she keeps moving and moving just hoping#her family might be ok. the guy and her fall in love. theres no news no information why hasnt anyone come to help them how far has it spread#anyway they have sex she infects him he dies. shes mad with grief her family are dead (they arrive). the u.s. army comes in and#and seemingly offer aid but they find out shes undead / immortal they put her through experiments for 20 years (patient zero tests) the girl#is called elise and grows up in the u.s. shes the first sired vampire (she was introduced to the mutated virus at a young enough age and#gradually) and manages to disappear before she follows the fate of her lost adoptive big sister. then the first immortality treatments#come out. but only the richest families can afford them and its somehow carried in the living body. strange rituals. blood becomes something#you can sell at an ok. price. you can become immortal but only through more obvious indentured servitude. TAKES DEEP BREATH#ENTER jess and haley two normal u.s. teenagers no good families in a crumbling education system whose teacher is managing to hold on to#life by his teeth by paying his students for blood because blood banks are now all in hands of oligarchal immortal families and hes been#banned#getting infected generally means death only those families have the medical resources to make it go right#DEEP BREATH.#anyway#personal#and more - jess and haley become blood workers - sell blood for money. very dangerous catering to either criminals or elites or desperates#jess does get infected haley nealy kills herself getting the money to pump her full of drugs so she might survive. jess nearly kills haley a

the problem with (mostly children-aimed) media friendships having these grand gestures and deep friendships most of the time is, if a lonely child’s only knowledge of friendship shines through the portrayals of grand gestures and huge generosity and unconventional tolerance - they won’t recognize friendship as it starts meekly, or friendship when it is subtle. they won’t be able to light the match and start the fire without kerosene and a torch, and once they leave this warm safe place with tools, they will be lonelier still.
the same vein as ‘media that presents the human experience’, drawing characters with asymmetry and crooked teeth and such because real people are like that and it’s normal, having media that can show the disappointing parts of life as something that still happens even if something goes great. not like a deep dramatic swandive into hazard or loss, but a simple disappointment, dissatisfaction.
#media is certainly entertainment still but it does not have to be tales of grandeur#and it is no fault of showwriters (nor their responsibility) that children get wrong impressions about things#but to potentially reach the excessively online/excessive readers who don’t nearly enough get nice time with people irl#and show them ‘its not always going to be nice. but it will be important and you would miss it if it was gone so it does mean something’#’you will be disappointed and not always happy with someone. you wont always act for each others best interest.#but that does not mean you cannot care about each other. it does not prove they dont care about you.’#also going to call up the genre of posts about ‘what if the hero DIDNT make the sacrifice. the hero matters too’#you have to one-up the previous. and that means not just giving up a reward or your sword or the glory#but your life. your being. experiencing new and exquisite forms of torture to prove your hero’s character and value#and the problem being - that if your hero is to be a role model to someone; and also commended for effectively committing suicide;#that if that happens every time and someone eats that up they NEED to counterbalance that#this may not be widespread but hey. if it doesnt apply. ignore it#i read too many books as a child and the one about the dog who just wanted to be good irreversibly infected me. so now im weird#it was mcgrowl by the way. the dog that goes through a messed up malpractice surgery that replaces#all his bones with metal and then he gets magnetized into a power plant and walks out with superpowers and genius intelligence and telepath

Fnaf tism rambling time
Personally a big fan of the idea of Nightmarionne being a part of Charlie’s soul that’s haunting the fazbear technology connected to the pizzaplex with the goal of stopping the mimic, with her also acting as a grim reaper of sorts as the opposite of puppet. The puppet gave life to the souls, Nightmarionne hypothetically instead just guides them to rest. The puppet didn’t try to directly stop William, just helped the souls, Nightmarionne is trying to directly take the mimic down from the source, aka the AR systems (he’s only found in both help wanted games and the AR space in ruin).
#she’s the one returning character I’d be fine with being there cus it MAKES SENSE#where there’s injustice and souls that need guiding there is Charlie Emily#on that note I also see her as the princess in princess quest but that’s a whole other can of worms#I think she could parallel the mimic a whole lot too#like I imagine they both get into the system the same way#aka the employees scanning the animatronic circuits for the VR game and then both infected the pizzaplex#mimic as a virus and Charlie as a protector#they both have books where they’re robots that tried to replace a dead kid and then were beaten and filled with agony#let me cook chat#fnaf#snails ramblings

I haatttteeee reading scifi and they give you some perfectly simple concept and they still have a character do the "explain it to me in english" thing!!! I think even someone who's not particularly familiar with fungi can work this out from context clues?! Stop making the characters stupid so you can treat the reader like they're stupid

i just realize we land in korea in two weeks yippeeeeee!!
#personal#i need a vacation aaaaahhhh#basically everything is planned other than the kyoto to tokyo luggage transfer service#and the kyoto to tokyo shinkansen#and booking the tokyo disneyland ticket (cause we wanna make sure weather is good on the day of)#i have had a stressful work week and stressful life month lol#i also know what im bringing coworkers as gifts already... one requested the weird kitkat flavors (which i was already planning)#and im getting my supervisor a lucky cat cuz he was nice about letting me wfh for nearly 2 weeks straight while#we had to do cat infection eye drops during our peak season#(also i wanted to give him something special cause he approved 3 wks pto for our honeymoon#but i also think he was okay w/ it cause we specifically planned it in both our slow seasons for husband and i lol)
